Perhaps, before you launch into making these seasonal crafts, how about preparing the original story of the season to share with your kids before or after the craft activity ?

Where do I find the original story of the birth of Christ ?

Read from the Bible: The book of Matthew Chap 1 verse 18 onwards. This is the original authentic story written over 2000 years ago.

"This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. she will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins."

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: "The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" - which means, "God with us."

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Go ahead, and explore various free crafts ideas! but wait a minute, continue reading chapter 2 to find out what happened when King Herod heard about this and was so threatened that he sent a decree that all boys under two years of age living in Bethlehem be killed. How did Jesus escape the death threat ?

The Gospel according to Luke gave more insights to how the birth of Jesus was foretold, how the shepherds and the angels proclaimed his birth, and how there was no room available that Jesus had to be born in a manger.

Children love the story of the season. Talk about this truth from the Bible and help your kids know the difference from Santa Claus and reindeers, or snowflakes and decorated trees. Help them to know why people give gifts to one another. Isn't it to remember the first gift God gave the world - the baby Jesus ? who later became the Savior of the world to those who believe.

I hope you'll spend time this season pondering on the original meaning - Christ is the reason for the season.

The spirit of Christmas needs to be superseded by the Spirit of Christ.

The spirit of Christmas is annual; the Spirit of Christ is eternal.

The spirit of Christmas is sentimental; the Spirit of Christ is supernatural.

The spirit of Christmas is a human product; the Spirit of Christ is a divine person.

That makes all the difference in the world. (Stuart Briscoe)
